Terry limped off in the second half of Chelsea’s 4-0 win over Maccabi Tel Aviv and has undergone assessment back in London, and has not been able to train fully. Mourinho was not confident at his press conference this afternoon that his captain would recover in time to play at White Hart Lane.
“I don’t know [if he will play],” Mourinho said. “I don't want to say that it's impossible he plays, because maybe he plays and then you will say that I was hiding. I am not hiding. Today he didn't train, but we have a little hope that it's possible.”
If Terry does not recover then Gary Cahill and Kurt Zouma will have to face Mauricio Pochettino’s rampant Spurs, in a fixture which Spurs lost 5-3 last season on New Year’s Day.
“To be fair, I have complete trust in Cahill and Zouma,” Mourinho said. “That's why, in a fundamental match for us last Tuesday, I left Zouma out after good performances to play Gary and to show Gary that confidence. Zouma and Gary are ready.”
Brazilian midfielder Ramires is also a doubt with a muscular issue. “He slid on the pitch in training,” Mourinho said. “Not a muscular injury, a pre-injury. He has a chance.”
