Leicester City and England striker Jamie Vardy is facing up to two weeks on the sidelines as he undergoes minor surgery on his groin.

The 28-year-old is the joint Premier League top goalscorer along with Everton’s Romelu Lukaku after netting 15 goals to fire the Foxes into the top four.

Leicester have failed to score in their last three matches, however, and boss Claudio Ranieri is set to lose the former Fleetwood Town forward this month.

Vardy has played through a succession of minor injuries this season, including having two broken bones in his wrist, but the East Midlands outfit believe the time is right to operate on another of their prized asset's niggling injury problems during the winter transfer window.

Leicester face Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday 10th January in the FA Cup before returning to White Hart Lane three days later to play Mauricio Pochettino’s men in the League.

Vardy, who may return in time for the latter of the two trips to the capital, played during the entirety of the 0-0 draw with Bournemouth on Saturday.

Meanwhile, Leicester are hoping to secure the capture of Demarai Gray from Birmingham City after they activated a £3.7m release clause.

It has been reported by BBC Radio Leicester that Gray underwent a medical at the club’s Belvoir Drive training complex on Saturday after failing to land the 19-year-old in August.

Birmingham remain hopeful that Gray may return to St Andrew’s on loan for the remaining months of the season should a permanent deal be completed.
