Arsenal have been handed an injury boost with Jack Wilshere set to return sooner rather than later.

The midfielder suffered a hairline fracture in his ankle the day before the Community Shield and it was feared that the 23-year-old could be out for as long as three months if he had needed surgery.

The injury was not as bad as first expected and Wilshere did not need to go under the knife and, according to the Daily Express, was sent to Dubai by Arsene Wenger to relax in the sun in the hopes of aiding his recovery.

Wilshere will return to England in the next couple of days and the Arsenal medical team now hope that he will be back in a matter of weeks rather than months.

England have two fixtures in early September but that will prove too soon for Wilshere - a move that will aid his recovery and could see him back in Arsenal colours without missing too many matches.

Speaking to the Arsenal website on Thursday, Wenger said that Wilshere was "on schedule" and would be back in around three weeks.

"We said Jack would be out for four weeks, and he’s in the second week now so he’s on schedule," said Wenger.
