From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Iversen had a year left to run on his contract with Tottenham, but they agreed to release him early to the Premiership newcomers.
The striker joins recent acquisitions Jody Craddock and the Senegal international Henri Camara.
The 26-year-old Camara has been named in the squad for today's friendly at Coventry although Jones has said that he will probably not play as he will only have had two training sessions with his new team-mates.
Camara, who fulfilled his lifelong ambition of joining a top-flight English club by signing a four-year contract, intends to put his experiences of Japan and South Korea in the World Cup last summer to good use. Until now, he had ranked his Golden Goal against Sweden as the pinnacle of his career.
Camara said: "I am not at all worried and I am relishing the pressure. I am looking forward to learning the language and playing in such impressive surroundings. Back home I have become a household name because of my golden goal."
The former Germany midfielder Steffen Freund has joined Kaiserslautern from Tottenham on a free transfer. Freund, 33, who was out of contract, has signed for a year with an option for another one.
The defensive midfielder was a member of Germany's 1996 European championship-winning team and the Borussia Dortmund side that won the Champions League in 1997.
The Tottenham manager Glenn Hoddle has denied any interest in the PSV Eindhoven striker Mateja Kezman. The Serbia and Montenegro international is reported to have turned down a move to White Hart Lane, claiming that the club did not share his own ambition.
But Hoddle said: "There has been no contact by us whatsoever. He was offered to us four or five months ago, but we have not followed it up."
