Hull seek to upset final-day specialists
Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.Hull may have spent the week hoping Sir Alex Ferguson fields a weakened team at the KC Stadium tomorrow as they try to preserve their top-flight status, but the Tigers' cause is not helped by the fact that Manchester United have the best final-day record of Premier League clubs.
The Red Devils have won 11 of 16 'last games', losing just two - 1-0 at home to West Ham two seasons ago and 3-1 at Tottenham in May 2001. Perhaps reassuringly for Phil Brown's side, and worryingly for Newcastle and Middlesbrough, United had already secured the title before the final day both times.
Hull have the poorest record of top-flight teams, winning just three matches in 16 seasons, all in lower divisions. Everton recorded a first final-day win in 12 seasons last year, but this Sunday visit Fulham, who have won five of seven final-day Premier League games, keeping clean sheets in all five.
Manchester City host Bolton seeking to end a run of three consecutive defeats, including last year's 8-1 pummelling at Middlesbrough.
