From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.Needing a victory over Manchester United to have any chance of surviving, it was always going to be a difficult afternoon for Hull and their fans at the KC Stadium.
But the linesman managed to make it even more torturous by disallowing not one, but two goals during the first half of the match.
Paul McShane was the first Hull player who thought he might be the hero of the day when he latched onto the ball inside the six yard box. However, with putting it in to the back of the net from a position behind even United goalkeeper Victor Valdes, it was little surprise to see the flag raised.
Then just minutes later, it was up again.
Stephen Quinn slammed a cross/shot into the box which Dame N'Doye scrambled in, however celebrations at the KC Stadium were short lived when it was spotted that an offside had been given.
Both calls were spot on.
