From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.Aston Villa striker Gabriel Agbonlahor is to undergo a minor groin operation on Monday and is expected to be out for at least two weeks. He will miss today's match with Tottenham and also be unavailable for England's Euro 2012 qualifier against Montenegro on 12 October.
Agbonlahor will miss the trip to White Hart Lane, although Gérard Houllier is hopeful he will be available for the home match with Chelsea on 16 October or the trip to Sunderland a week later. "Gabby will have a minor operation on Monday evening on his groin," the Villa manager said. "He had to leave training this morning because it was too painful. I think the England squad is given on Monday and that has definitely ruled him out. He wouldn't be able to play. It is not just a niggle, it is real pain and hopefully the operation will heal that. He could be available for the Chelsea game but, if not, definitely for the Sunderland game."
Agbonlahor has had an injury-hit start to the season after scoring 16 goals during the 2009-2010 campaign. He missed the opening three matches with a calf problem and now the groin setback has added to his woes.
West Bromwich Albion were celebrating a rare double when Roberto Di Matteo and Peter Odemwingie were both honoured in the monthly Premier League Awards yesterday.
Di Matteo was named Manager of the Month for September while new signing Odemwingie won the Player of the Month prize after his three goals. Di Matteo guided Albion to two wins and a draw in the League last month – the same points return as Manchester City. But the fact one of the Baggies' wins came at Arsenal appears to have swung the vote the Italian's way.
