Grant Holt has agreed a new three-year deal to stay at Norwich.

The 31-year-old striker, who scored 15 goals to help keep the Canaries in the Barclays Premier League, handed in a transfer request at the end of last season that was rejected by the club.

The Canaries are reported to have knocked back several bids from newly-promoted West Ham, and following talks with new Norwich manager Chris Hughton, who took charge after Paul Lambert left for Aston Villa, it was today confirmed club captain Holt would remain in Norfolk.

At a press conference held to unveil new signing Steven Whittaker from Rangers, the club also confirmed the signing of midfielder Jacob Butterfield from Barnsley.

Holt was instrumental in helping the Canaries climb back up from npower League One with successive promotions under Lambert.

The former Shrewsbury frontman said on http://www.canaries.co.uk: "I'm really pleased we've agreed things and that I've got a three-year deal which gives me and my family a bit of security.

"I do appreciate where the club was coming from in terms of the process we've gone through to get to this point.

"Now I'm just really keen to concentrate on getting back to work with the rest of the lads and concentrating on having a good pre-season and getting ready for the start of another season in the Premier League."

Norwich have been quick to tie up key men on new deals, with goalkeeper John Ruddy joining versatile Scotland defender Russell Martin and midfielder Andrew Surman in penning fresh terms.

Hughton added: "I said when I first arrived that talking to Grant was a priority as what he has achieved for Norwich and what he brings to the squad is there for all to see.

"It's great news that he has signed a new contract and I'm really looking forward to getting down to work with Grant and the rest of the players when we return to training next week."

Butterfield joins the Canaries after his contract at Barnsley expired, and has agreed a four-year deal.

The former England Under-21 international is recovering from a knee injury, and is looking forwards to the challenges ahead.

"I am absolutely delighted, Norwich is a big club and did fantastic in the Premier League last season and after speaking to Chris about how much he wanted to bring me here to the club, he really sold it to me," he said.

"I'm really looking forward to getting on now and working under the gaffer.

"I spoke to him several times and was really impressed with him. His knowledge of football is second to none.

"I'm just looking forward to getting down here and getting into it now."

Former Newcastle and Birmingham boss Hughton feels Butterfield has a bright future.

"His form last year was a very good period for him and for anybody who didn't know about him before, he certainly would've caught their eye last season," said Hughton.

"That is of course before he picked up an injury which is over now, which we are delighted about, but he's a talent.

"He's got that good balance between being a good age, but at 22 years old he's also got that league experience as well. He's a player very much on the up."
