From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Spurs face Fulham on Boxing Day followed by West Bromwich two days later, a series of fixtures that Gomes feels gives them a chance of being mid-table heading into 2009. "I think we can win these games," he said. "If we do and we manage to get the six points, then we can climb up the table. Fulham are on a good run but we are confident at home – every time we play at home we know we can win."
Redknapp is hoping Jonathan Woodgate can return from a back problem to face Fulham, Jermaine Jenas is recovering from a calf strain and captain Ledley King is set to play one of Spurs' two Christmas fixtures.
Redknapp will then look for loans or value deals to strengthen his squad, with one suggestion being the out-of-favour Espanyol full-back Steve Finnan. Vedran Corluka is Redknapp's only senior right-back, with Paul Stalteri joining Borussia Mönchengladbach in Germany after being released.
The Canada captain had his contract with Spurs cancelled by mutual consent yesterday and has wasted little time in securing a move back to Germany, signing a two-and-a-half-year deal with Mönchengladbach. The 31-year-old made 151 appearances in seven years for Werder Bremen before moving to White Hart Lane in 2005.
He was a regular first-team starter in his first season in England but then struggled to keep his place, leading him to join Fulham on loan in January for the remainder of the 2007-08 campaign. Mönchengladbach are bottom of the Bundesliga, having taken just 11 points from their opening 17 games.
Meanwhile, Jamie O'Hara wants to see Spurs getting back to winning ways following defeat to Newcastle at the weekend. "As a club we have achieved a fantastic run of results to get out of trouble but now we can't let it slip," he said. "We're still in there and we have to keep pushing on. Everyone is believing now that we can get into that top six and it's a realistic achievement for this season."
