The captain's words are his latest confirmation that he will not be leaving in the transfer window and is highly unlikely either to consider leaving Anfield next summer. Gerrard has made it clear he wants to be part of the plans of the manager, Rafael Benitez, as Liverpool embark on a demanding five games in 13 days, starting with West Bromwich away on Sunday.
"I feel there is more to come from me, so I can help the club win honours," Gerrard said. "The fans at this club have been great to me ever since the day I made my debut. I feel they have always been behind me and recently I know there have been some people looking for a few of the fans to turn against me after certain comments I have made.
"It is important that the supporters know I didn't say those things from a selfish point of view. All the comments I have made have been because I love this club and want to be successful. I want us to do everything we can as a club to be winning trophies and I want to be part of a successful Liverpool."
Gerrard, voted the Liverpool Supporters' Club player of the year, said: "We want to finish as high as possible. We are sixth at the moment, and a good run of results would take us up the table and back into the Champions' League positions.
"As captain, it would be nice to lift something this season because we are still involved in three major tournaments. It would be a dream come true for me to be able to lift a trophy as Liverpool captain this season.
"I'm a Liverpool player, signed for this season and another two, so there is no situation for me. There is a lot of speculation, but that is not down to me. It seems to happen every time the transfer window opens."
Gerrard stopped short, though, of saying he would still be at Liverpool at the end of his current contract in 2007.
His words will none the less delight Benitez, who spoke glowingly of his transfer-window target, Fernando Morientes. Benitez said: "I do not like talking about other players. But Morientes is a fine player, and all I know is what I read from him when he says he would like to play for Liverpool."
One of Benitez's other Spanish signings, the full-back Josemi, will need to see a specialist following a knee injury which will keep him out of the two Christmas matches at least.
