From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.Aston Villa boss Gerard Houllier has confirmed his interest in Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema.
Houllier admitted "we would sign him tomorrow" if Benzema becomes available.
The 25-year-old made a multi-million pound move from Houllier's previous club, Lyon, to Real last year but is reported to be unsettled.
It would be a massive coup for Villa if Houllier could attract such a quality player.
The Villa boss said: "If Karim wants to come and play at Aston Villa, we would sign him tomorrow."
Houllier is already poised to sign former Arsenal midfielder Robert Pires in the next two to three days.
Pires is a free agent following his release by Villarreal last summer.
Gunners boss Arsene Wenger and French coach Laurent Blanc have both given their backing to the potential move.
Houllier has made it clear he needs to sign new players during the January transfer window.
But he has ruled out making a move for Manchester United striker Michael Owen, who played under him at Liverpool.
