AC Milan midfielder Gennaro Gattuso is not on the verge of joining Manchester City, according to his agent.

The 31-year-old Italy international hardman was reported to be close to agreeing a move to the City of Manchester Stadium after becoming disillusioned with life at Milan.

However, agent Andrea D'Amico insists there is no truth in the suggestion that his client - a long-time target of the big-spending Eastlands club - will finally join City in January.

Gattuso has made only eight appearances for the Italian giants this season as he continues to make his comeback from a serious knee ligament injury.

“There is no truth in the Manchester City link," said D'Amico. “I have had no contact with Manchester City at this moment. Gennaro is coming back from injury and he is okay at Milan.”
