Gary Neville believes Marcos Alonso “cost Chelsea the game” in the 3-2 loss to West Ham.

The Spaniard was seen high up the pitch as the Blues attempted to win the game late at the London Stadium.

But the Hammers broke quickly, with Andriy Yarmolenko seen sprinting down the right before collecting the ball and finishing superbly to earn all three points for David Moyes.

Alonso’s future is uncertain under Frank Lampard, with the Blues linked with a move for Ben Chilwell in recent months.

And Neville has placed the blame firmly on Alonso for what could be a damaging result in Chelsea’s pursuit of a top four finish.

“You see Yarmolenko is back there with Alonso,” Neville said while commentating on Sky Sports.

“Look at him, look at him, look at him. What are you doing Marcos Alonso? What are you doing? There’s his running back speed.

“It has cost Chelsea the game, along with a poor piece of defending from Rudiger.

“Marcos Alonso is level with him [Yarmolenko] at the point where that counter-attack starts and he doesn’t bother.

“I mentioned it earlier and that’s why he is under pressure at this football club. Frank Lampard will see that.

“Run back as fast as you can when your team lose the ball. You learn that aged six.”
