Gallas one of three to leave in clear-out
Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.William Gallas intends to leave Chelsea this summer after five years at the club, with Juventus, Barcelona and Milan the leaders for his signature. But Didier Drogba and Shaun Wright-Phillips are not for sale, the club's chief executive Peter Kenyon said yesterday.
Gallas, 28, is unhappy at being moved from centre-back to full-back and has one year left on his contract. He is one of three players that Kenyon said will leave.
Gallas said: "I don't know if I will stay because I am a man who wants to win everything, and I want to do that in different countries. Maybe next season I will be somewhere else. I need to speak with the manager.
"I have been here five years and maybe that is enough. You are fortunate when you are a footballer that you have the opportunity to play in a different country. I am someone who wants to play in another championship. Barcelona and Milan - we will see."
Kenyon said Chelsea also plan to acquire three players - Michael Ballack included - and admitted his relationship with Jose Mourinho is occasionally difficult. He told BBC Radio Five Live: "Things happened and everybody moves on."
