Villa, who have been in the Premier League since its inception, saw their relegation from the top-flight confirmed on Saturday following a 1-0 defeat to Manchester United.
A story published by The Sun alleges that Agbonlahor attended a party at a hotel in Mayfair later that same day. The 29-year-old was not involved in the defeat at Old Trafford due to being placed on a fitness programme by caretaker manager Eric Black. The Sun also alleges that cannisters used to consume laughing gas and alcohol were at the party.
Today, Aston Villa released a statement stating that Agbonlahor has been suspended.
"Aston Villa Football Club has today suspended Gabby Agbonlahor pending an internal investigation," it read.
"This is following allegations concerning his conduct at the weekend.
"There will be no further comment from the Club in relation to this matter until the investigation has been completed."
Agbonlahor, who has three caps for England, has scored just once for Aston Villa in what has been a truly terrible campaign for the Birmingham based club in which they have won just three of their 34 league games.
