From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. Fulham winger Damien Duff has been ruled out for six weeks after undergoing Achilles surgery.

Fulham boss Mark Hughes explained that the club had opted for surgery after treatment had not cured the problem.

Hughes said: "It just got to the point where one course of treatment was compromising another course of treatment.

"We made a decision that the best route was to get it sorted."

Hughes reported better news regarding top-scorer - and Fulham's new record Premier League scorer - Clint Dempsey, who missed Saturday's 3-0 Barclays Premier League win at Sunderland.

"Clint's trained after the weekend," said the Cottagers boss, whose side host Liverpool on Monday night.

"He was a bit stiff in his hamstrings on the Friday prior to the Sunderland game, so there was no point in risking him.

"I took the view to leave him behind and he's benefited from that and he should be okay.

"He's trained today and he'll train right up to the game so he should be an option for us."

Brede Hangeland will also be available again after missing last weekend's game through illness, but Zoltan Gera and Rafik Halliche remain sidelined.
