Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference. The first photos of former Liverpool star Rigobert Song have been revealed online after he suffered a stroke nine weeks ago.
The 40-year-old is said to be ‘recovering steadily’ in a French hospital after suffering from a brain aneurysm.
Song had the stroke in October while he was at his home in the Odza neighbourhood in Yaounde, Cameroon. As a result, he went into a two-day coma before being flown to France for specialist care.
The photographed ex-Cameroon skipper looked frail, but he thanked his fans for their positive energy as well as the people of Cameroon for giving him the courage to get better.
The former Anfield ace took the opportunity to thank the people of his home nation for their ongoing support during his recovery. Cameroon’s government have spent around £78,000 on his treatment, according to The Sun.
The former defender had an incredibly successful playing career, with appearances in four World Cups under his belt. He played for Liverpool, West Ham, Galatasaray and FC Metz and was capped 137 times for his country.
