Brendan Rodgers has revealed he hopes to return to management in the summer after being sacked by Liverpool in October.

The Northern Irishman failed to win a single piece of silverware during his three years at Anfield but took the Merseyside club to within three matches of winning the Premier League title in 2014.

“Hopefully in the summer, I can get back in again," he told BBC Sport during live coverage of Chelsea’s 5-1 FA Cup fifth round victory against Manchester City. “I am open to travelling. I have had a couple of offers to go abroad but I wanted to wait.”

Rodgers has taken his time out of football to reflect on his spell at Liverpool after being replaced by Jurgen Klopp early into the current campaign. The 42-year-old has since been linked with a host of jobs, including Aston Villa and Swansea City, but has thus far resisted the temptation to return.

“I had a really enjoyable time at Liverpool but wanted to take a step back and reflect,” said the former Reading manager. “The first couple of seasons went well and we were building towards a title challenge and we fell just short.

“The last six months were difficult and the owners wanted to make a change.”

Liverpool have been indifferent under Klopp, winning at Chelsea and City, but falling to dispiriting defeats to the likes of Crystal Palace, Watford and arch-rivals Manchester United.
