Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

The Liverpool striker's open-goal miss against Queens Park Rangers capped a woeful performance for Balotelli in the Reds' 3-2 victory on Sunday. He has still yet to score for Liverpool in a Premier League match since his £16m move, meaning because of their own goals QPR defenders Steven Caulker and Richard Dunne have actually scored more in the division for Liverpool than him. Far from an ideal start to his second spell in the Premier League.
Arsenal cannot defend
The Gunners have failed to keep a clean sheet in their last five matches in all competitions. Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger said after the 2-2 draw with Hull City on Saturday: "I think the way we concede goals at the moment is too easy. Our defensive efficiency is not there at the moment. It's a bit linked with confidence and concentration." It is also the Gunners' second-worst start to a Premier League season.
Taarabt is 'three stone' overweight
In his fury after QPR's 3-2 defeat by Liverpool, finished by the injury-time own goal by Caulker, QPR manager Harry Redknapp decided to reveal that his player Adel Taarabt, who is back at the club after a loan spell at AC Milan, is "about three stone" overweight and that he "cannot pick him".
Southampton are great
Six key players left the Saints this summer, as well as manager Maurico Pochettino, but, spearheaded by the talented Italian Graziano Pelle under new boss Ronaldo Koeman, Southampton have put together a brilliant run of five wins in their last six Premier League matches, including the 8-0 demolition of Sunderland. Luke who?
Aguero has become a City legend
After his four goals against Tottenham in Manchester City's 4-1 win, Sergio Aguero became City's record Premier League goalscorer. He has now scored 61 goals in the division, overtaking his compatriot Carlos Tevez's 58. But it not just his level of goals in the League that is so impressive, it is the incredible rate in which he has scored them. The Argentine has played in just 95 Premier League matches, averaging a goal every 108 minutes.
