1. Points at this stage
After five Premier League matches last season under David Moyes, United had seven points, This season they have five. It was a terrible start then. It is a nightmare now. Historically, Van Gaal has now overseen United's worst start to a Premier League season.
2. Money spent
Van Gaal spent almost £160m on new six faces during the summer. At this stage last season, before the £39m signing of Juan Mata in January, Moyes had spent £28m, bringing in just one player. That one player was, however, Marouane Fellaini.
3. Young players used
Moyes brought in the winger Adnan Januzaj (yet to start a game for Van Gaal). Van Gaal has brought in Tyler Blackett. The defender Blackett was ruthelssly exposed by Leicester's forwards on Sunday in the 5-3 thrashing before he was sent off, the terrorising Jamie Vardy in particular.
4. Goals conceded
Three at the back or four at the back, United's defence just is not clicking. In all competitions this season they have conceded 11 goals. Under Moyes before the 22nd September, United had shipped only four.

5. Experience
Moyes took the job hand-picked by Sir Alex Ferguson for his work at Everton. Just one Champions League play-off and one fourth-placed finish was the highlight of his C.V. Van Gaal has won eight league titles in four different countries and a Champions League with Ajax in 1994/95.
