Fantasy football scout tips gameweek 29: Christian Eriksen, Romelu Lukaku, Andrew Robertson and more
How many of our picks are in your team?
Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.Christian Eriksen
A quick scan down this weekend’s fixture list suggests Tottenham assets should be our priority, even though Huddersfield will travel to Wembley on the back of two consecutive wins.
David Wagner’s side picked up only their third away victory of the season last weekend, beating basement club West Bromwich Albion, but it hard to see them taking anything away from Saturday’s visit to the capital.
Harry Kane will rival Mohamed Salah for the captain’s armband in many teams this weekend, but keep an eye on Christian Eriksen too. The Dane also sat out of Wednesday’s FA Cup replay against Rochdale and assisted last week at Crystal Palace.
Orestis Karnezis
A relative unknown until Javi Gracia’s appointment at Vicarage Road, Karnezis has kept two clean sheets in his last six appearances for Watford and promises another this weekend.
Alan Pardew’s wretched West Bromwich roll into town on Saturday afternoon with just seven goals to their name away from the Hawthorns this season. No top-flight team has scored fewer.
Watford appear to have tightened up somewhat under Gracia too and should be confident of a shut-out with home advantage behind them.
Andrew Robertson
Did you listen to our Virgil van Dijk tip last week? No? Good. Michail Antonio’s goal was the only blemish on Liverpool’s performance against West Ham last Saturday but it left one of the gameweek’s most transferred-in players without a clean sheet.
Antonio’s goal meant Andy Robertson lost an extra four points too, but he at least made up the lost ground by setting up his side’s fourth.
The Scot appears to have established himself as Jürgen Klopp’s first-choice left back now and, priced £0.7m cheaper than Van Dijk, he is arguably the best option in Liverpool’s backline.
Riyad Mahrez
Riyad Mahrez is becoming an ever-present in our scout picks, even though he is yet to score or assist since returning to the fold with Leicester City. Why?
Put simply, the recent run of fixtures for Claude Puel’s side was a little too good to ignore and it continues this weekend when a leaky Bournemouth outfit visits the King Power Stadium.
Mahrez was busy last time round in the 1-1 draw with Stoke and a shade unlucky not to have anything to show for his efforts. This weekend he looks well placed to convert that promise into points.
Ben Davies
Back to the plum fixture of the weekend. If you can find space for a Tottenham defender alongside a midfielder or forward, it would be wise to squeeze them in.
Though they have not quite sunk to West Bromwich Albion’s depths, Huddersfield’s 10 away goals is still a meagre total. Only Manchester United, meanwhile, have conceded fewer than Tottenham at home this season.
Of the options, Ben Davies stands out. The £5.8m-priced full back notched an assist in his last home league outing - the recent north London derby - and is occasionally trusted with set pieces.
Romelu Lukaku
This time last year Romelu Lukaku was enjoying a run of consistent scoring at Everton and a sure-fire selection among a lot of fantasy managers.
It has been a different story since his move to Manchester United, with his 13 Premier League goals spread out unevenly across the season.
Last week’s display against Chelsea hinted at a return to form though, and the Belgian may could well find some joy against Roy Hodgson’s faltering Crystal Palace on Monday night.
It is a punt, and an expensive one at that, but one that could pay off for those with ground to make up.
