From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Who says romance is dead?

Former Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has been pictured in Times Square proposing to his girlfriend Charlotte Searle.

Mum-of-one Ms Searle accepted the proposal.

The 43-year-old's proposal was spotted by Liverpool fan Craig Allen, who said he saw him hand Ms Searle, 33, a bouquet of roses before getting down on one knee.

"I saw this bloke proposing and took snaps to show my girlfriend," Mr Allen, who was waiting outside a shop while his partner shopped inside, told The Sun.

"I was gobsmacked when I saw it was Rodgers. They stopped off in a Mercedes, he popped the question in front of a photographer, put the ring on, and away they went."

Rodgers divorced his wife of 14 years, Susan, in December and just 68 days on he has taken the first important step towards another trip down the aisle.

Ms Searle was Liverpool's travel coordinator when she first met Rodgers - who was paid £5million-a-year as the club's manager - in 2013.

Rodgers, who came so close to winning the Premier League title with Liverpool in 2013/14, was sacked as Reds manager back last October and replaced with Jurgen Klopp.
