From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. Chelsea target John Stones starts for Everton in the Premier League match against Tottenham despite the club rejecting his transfer request during the week.

Stones was the subject of a fourth bid from Chelsea worth £38m, but Everton insisted that he is not for sale and have strengthened that belief by naming him alongside Phil Jagielka in central defence for the game against Spurs.

Everton manager Roberto Martinez makes just one change to his side that lost 2-0 to Manchester City last Sunday, with Bryan Oviedo coming in for Brendan Galloway in defence. The Toffees rotated their attack for the midweek Capital One Cup extra-time victory over Barnsley, but revert to their strongest line-up for trip to north London.

Spurs manager Mauricio Pochettino makes two changes to his line-up as Nabil Bentaleb replaces Erik Lamela and Danny Rose comes in for Ben Davies, with both dropping down to the substitutes’ bench. Lamela has been linked with a move to Inter Milan, but the Argentinian was a part of the matchday squad to play down those rumours.

Teams:

Tottenham: Lloris; Walker, Alderweireld, Vertonghen, Rose; Bentaleb, Dier; Chadli, Mason, Dembele; Kane

Subs: Vorm, Davies, Trippier, Alli, Carroll, Lamela, Pritchard

Everton: Howard, Coleman, Stones, Jagielka, Oviedo, Barry, Cleverley, McCarthy, Barkley, Kone, Lukaku

Subs: Robles, Mirallas, Naismith, Besic, Deulofeu, Pennington, Browning
