Here's how the players rated:
Everton
Jordan Pickford - 5
Serious questions must be asked after yet another error, Gareth Southgate will be taking note, but made important late stop from Odion Ighalo
Seamus Coleman - 6
His afternoon was cut short by an apparent muscle injury, though did better than replacement Djbril Sidibe
Michael Keane - 6
Not intimidated coming up against his former club, dealt with the threat of Martial's pace well enough
Mason Holgate - 5
The weakest link in Everton's defence despite impressive form to date this season, but came through unscathed
Leighton Baines - 7
Led by example from left-back in Lucas Digne's absence, picked out Richarlison well on the stroke of half time.
Theo Walcott - 5
Largely ineffective on the right flank, particularly when looking to break; removed midway through the second half.
Tom Davies - 6
Could easily have landed himself in trouble towards the end of a heated first half but regained composure
Andre Gomes - 6
Making his Goodison return after a horrific injury, he kept up with the hectic pace in midfield
Gylfi Sigurdsson - 6
Occasionally off-the-pace but was unlucky to strike the upright with a second-half free-kick
Dominic Calvert-Lewin - 8
Showed desire of an in-form striker for the opener, his excellent form in front of goal continues
Richarlison - 6
Took up several promising positions off Calvert-Lewin but his finishing was found wanting at key moments
Manchester United
David de Gea - 5
Some important second-half saves helped to atone for his earlier error but ultimately he cost his side three points
Aaron Wan-Bissaka - 5
After more promising displays going forward of late, his usual attacking limitations returned
Victor Lindelof - 6
Initially made to suffer by Calvert-Lewin but grew into the game with Maguire's assistance as United improved
Harry Maguire - 7
Dominated aerially and led United's backline well, one of his better displays since joining last summer
Luke Shaw - 6
Not as impressive as in recent games but appears to have seen off threat from understudy Brandon Williams for now
Nemanja Matic - 8
Teed-up Fernandes's goal and peppered Pickford with a few attempts of his own in an encouraging display
Scott McTominay - 6
Still making his way back to full fitness following an long-term injury, and you could tell at times; replaced by Juan Mata
Fred - 6
Another who did not maintain recent good form but popped up in unpredictable positions at times
Bruno Fernandes - 8
The saviour of United's season? His first goal from open play was well-taken and his popularity with supporters grows
Mason Greenwood - 6
Went close with a header and offered a threat on the break, though failed to have his usual impact
Anthony Martial - 6
Typically drifted in and out of the game, though could make a fair argument that he was not given much service
