Pep Guardiola’s side kicked off eight points behind their rivals against a wounded Everton looking to bounce back from consecutive league defeats.
Gabriel Jesus headed City into the lead after 24 minutes, however, Marco Silva’s side rallied to equalise as Dominic Calvert-Lewin finished off a fine move by Seamus Coleman.
With the match level in the second half, both sides had clear opportunities to take the lead before Riyad Mahrez capped his standout display with a whipped low free-kick to break the deadlock.
