Everton's primary sponsor SportPesa have risked angering supporters on Merseyside for a second time by describing the club as “a hopeless place”.

The Kenyan sports betting platform reacted to the news of Sam Allardyce's appointment as the club’s new permanent manager by posting a video of Allardyce dancing to the Rihanna song ‘We Found Love’.

SportPesa’s tweet added: “Sam Allardyce is set to become the new Everton manager! Talk about finding love in a hopeless place”. The tweet was later deleted.

Everton currently sit one place above the Premier League relegation zone after 13 games, having lost four of their last seven league games.

Former Under-23s manager David Unsworth took over on a caretaker basis in October following Ronald Koeman's dismissal but has been able to turn his side's fortunes around.

SportPesa were forced to apologise in October after upsetting Everton supporters with a separate social media gaffe.

The account of the betting company’s Kenyan brand reacted to the club’s 5-2 defeat at home to Arsenal by posting: “Well in Gunners! A superb gift by the players for the birthday gaffer! #MadeOfWinners.”

SportPesa, who also have partnerships in place with Arsenal and Hull City, later released a statement insisting it was “deeply sorry for any offence caused”.

The bookmaker replaced Chang Beer as Everton’s shirt sponsor in the summer, signing a five-year agreement with the Goodison Park club.
