EU referendum: Petr Cech hits out at 'fake' Leave campaign

Arsenal goalkeeper Petr Cech has waded into the Brexit debate and launched an attack on the Leave campaign via Twitter.

After the country voted to leave the EU by a majority of 51.9%, the former Chelsea star was quick to express his feelings.

Cech criticised the Leave campaign as “fake” and one that was based upon “lies”, citing the EU referendum as “the biggest decision in the history of this country”.

The 34-year-old’s responses were specifically directed at Nigel Farage after the politician disputed a previous claim made by himself that £350m would become available to spend once the country left the EU.

The UKIP leader has been widely criticised for a number of claims he made as part of the Leave campaign.

Cech has been joined by a number of sportsmen who have openly expressed their disappointment over the EU referendum.

Ex-England rugby union captain Will Carling tweeted that he “can’t quite believe what we have voted for” and former Olympic champion Jonathan Edwards tweeted that he felt like he was "living in a foreign country now".
