From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Ugo Ehiogu's career has come full circle with the expected completion of his move from Middlesbrough to West Bromwich Albion today.

The Baggies first gave the Hackney-born Ehiogu his chance in professional football when he joined them as a 17-year-old in 1989. Now, 16 years later, central defender Ehiogu is poised to return to The Hawthorns.

The 33-year-old is out of contract in the summer and has agreed personal terms with the manager, Bryan Robson, who said: "We're so far down the line with big Ugo that there are only a few minor details to try and tie up. I was hoping to have him in on Monday but hopefully by tomorrow he'll be a West Brom player.

"He's a big strong defender who has vast experience of Premiership football. I think Ugo will be good for Curtis Davies and Neil Clement with the experience he has. He is also a good communicator on the pitch."
