England midfielder Alli had attempted to avoid a three-match ban by claiming, after accepting a charge of violent conduct, that such a suspension would be ‘clearly excessive.’
The 20-year-old, who was crowned the PFA Young Player of the Year last Sunday, was charged by the Football Association on Tuesday following his off-the-ball clash with Yacob during the first-half of Monday’s 1-1 draw at White Hart Lane.
With the incident going unseen by referee Mike Jones and his assistants, Alli was charged by the FA and a regulatory commission has now imposed a suspension that will see the player miss Tottenham’s remaining league games - against Chelsea, Southampton and Newcastle United.
An FA statement said: “Dele Alli will serve a three-match suspension with immediate effect after he committed an act of violent conduct which was not seen by the match officials but caught on video.
“The player accepted The FA charge but contested that the standard penalty of a three-match suspension would be ‘clearly excessive’.
“This claim, however, was rejected following an Independent Regulatory Commission hearing today [Thursday 28 April 2016].”
With Alli now ruled out of Tottenham’s final fixtures, his next competitive outing is likely to be England’s Euro 2016 opener against Russia in Marseilles on Saturday 11 June.
The youngster will, however, be eligible to play for Roy Hodgson’s team in the forthcoming warm-up fixtures against Turkey, Australia and Portugal.
