David De Gea signed a new contract extension at Manchester United on Friday, prompting absolute delight from the club's fans.

The Spanish goalkeeper - who would have joined Real Madrid on deadline day but for some delayed paperwork, remember - said that he was "proud" to announce the new deal and thanked the supporters for their "unconditional support".

Despite delight from United supporters, the new deal was greeted with huge skepticism elsewhere, with most neutral fans believing that the deal is just to ensure United get a transfer fee next summer from Real Madrid.

In fact the move to the Bernabeu is definitely not off, with a new release clause contained in his deal.

United produced their own cringeworthy hashtag 'DaveStays' (which was met with embarrassment everywhere, to be fair).
