David De Gea is set to return to the Manchester United starting line-up for this Saturday's clash against Liverpool.

Louis van Gaal will hold talks with the Spanish goalkeeper for the first time since his long-anticipated move to Real Madrid collapsed deadline day.

According to the Mirror, the Dutch coach is ready to re-instate De Gea, despite not selecting in any of the club's first six competitive fixtures this season.

De Gea was stripped of his regular starting berth following a poor performance against Paris Saint-Germain during United's pre-season tour in the United States.

Van Gaal publicly stated that his goalkeeper was not in the right frame of mind to play while speculation over his future was still rife.

However, now that any potential move away from Old Trafford can only go through in January at the earliest, the 24-year-old will be recalled.

His replacement Sergio Romero, signed on a free transfer in the midst of De Gea's transfer saga, is expected to drop to the bench.

The Argentinian 'keeper's poor performance in the 2-1 defeat to Swansea City, United's last Premier League game, has put his position under threat and it seems he will be unlikely to win back his place if De Gea is reinstated.
