Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.Midfielder Darren Pratley has confirmed he will leave Swansea this summer after five years at the club.
The 26-year-old Londoner has refused to sign a new deal and revealed he is eager for a new challenge after playing a key role in the Swans' promotion to the Barclays Premier League.
Pratley made 179 appearances for the Welsh club and scored 27 goals, including a stunning strike in the npower Championship play-off semi-final second leg win over Nottingham Forest.
He told the club's official website, http://www.swanseacity.net: "I'd like to thank the chairman (Huw Jenkins), manager and especially the fans for a wonderful five years.
"But after five years I feel the time is right for a fresh challenge.
"It's been a difficult decision for me and my family to make because Swansea is a fantastic club with such friendly and passionate supporters.
"It's not going to be easy for me, but if there was a good time to leave then it's now, with the club having secured their place in the Premier League."
Meanwhile, Swansea say they will not entertain any offers for Ashley Williams after denying that QPR have made an approach for the defender.
The London club were reported to have tabled a £2.6million bid for the defender, who played a key role in the Swans' promotion push last season.
Jenkins has had to deal with speculation regarding Williams and reported Newcastle target Neil Taylor, but he insists neither will be sold.
"We haven't had any bids for Ashley Williams. We're not selling Ashley Williams," Jenkins told BBC Wales.
"I think we mustn't forget really that there's a lot of speculation about players like Neil Taylor, Ashley or a few others.
"Agents in this day and age do, rightly or wrongly, get things out in the press, maybe a negotiation tactic to get more wages, bigger contracts - it's just part and parcel of the Championship and now the Premier League."
Swansea are in talks with Tottenham over the potential loan signing of England Under-21 defender Steven Caulker.
Out-of-contract Villarreal midfielder Marcos Senna has also been mentioned as a possible addition to the squad, although his wage demands may prove to be a stumbling block.
