Your support makes all the difference. One year on from Danny Rose’s sensational revelations that he wanted more “medals, trophies and salary” and “players you didn’t have to Google” at Tottenham, it may come as a surprise that the England left-back is staying put in north London.
Rose was once again the subject of transfer speculation this summer, with Paris Saint-Germain said to be interested recently, but the defender has revealed that he expects to stay at Spurs beyond the European transfer deadline.
Mauricio Pochettino was reportedly ready to let him go but the pair have been in constant talks over the summer about his future.
The 28-year-old was handed a surprise start in their landmark 3-0 win at Manchester United, and now Rose is targeting a strong season after making an “amazing start".
“The manager has spoken to us all a couple of weeks ago and said everybody starts from zero,” Rose said.
“We all have to start again trying to impress him and that’s great. We all go again. I’m good. I’m not listening to the speculation about my future.
“If I’m here past Friday, which I’m expecting to be, which will be great, I’m looking forward to seeing what we can achieve at the end of the season.”
Rose is a big admirer of Pochettino and said that his first Premier League start at Old Trafford after a summer of uncertainty was the biggest expression of support the Spurs manager has shown for him.
“Me and the manager have had a conversation over the phone, as well as two one-hour meetings over the last couple of weeks.
"We're both aware of the situation. (Monday) was massive for me that, even though there is speculation, he still trusts and believes in me to put me into such a massive game, a game where he didn't need to change anything.
"For me, over the last four or five years we've worked together, that is probably the biggest thing he has done for me.
"I was so shocked in the meeting before we arrived. I thought there was going to be a change but never did I think that it was going to be me coming in.”
Rose’s first appearance this season began with a tricky start when he played a blind back pass to Hugo Lloris which was intercepted. Romelu Lukaku rounded the goalkeeper but, thankfully for Rose, fired wide.
“I had a very poor first half,” Rose admitted. “But I feel I got better in the second half.
“We got a clean sheet, we scored goals and we forgot about it. (We) go to a difficult game on Sunday (at Watford) and look to keep going with the momentum that we’ve got now.”
