The injured Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge will spend Christmas in Boston making using of the medical expertise available to the Fenway Sports Group’s Boston Red Sox baseball franchise in a bid to speed up his return from his latest thigh injury.

Sturridge, 25, has not played since he injured a thigh in an England training session in early September, and had originally targeted late October as his comeback date.

He then injured his calf in training at Liverpool just days before he was due to play again. Earlier this month he tore a thigh muscle in training.

Liverpool’s owners Fenway, who also own the Boston Red Sox, are determined to leave no stone unturned in their attempts to get their leading striker back in action.

With only two wins in the team’s last ten games, Rodgers’ team face Bournemouth at Dean Court tonight in the last eight of the Capital One Cup.

Sturridge flies to Boston today and will be accompanied by the club’s head of performance Glen Driscoll. The trip was conceived of by the Liverpool medical department and Sturridge will have access to the same specialist treatment that is used by injured Red Sox players while he is in Boston.

Sturridge has previously been on a rehabilitation trip to the west coast of America. His last game for Liverpool was the 3-0 win away at Spurs on 31 August.
