Daniel Sturridge has suffered yet another injury setback that will put his anticipated comeback on hold.

The Liverpool striker, 25, was expected to make his return to the side against Crystal Palace on Sunday but limped out of a training session at Melwood on Monday with a thigh problem.

Sturridge was sent for a scan but Brendan Rodgers is nervously awaiting the results of a scan, which are expected today.

The striker scored 24 goals for the Reds last season but has not not played since 31 August and only made his return to full training last week.

He has already missed 14 matches this season for Liverpool who, after three defeats in a row, are now in the bottom half of the Premier League. Liverpool have won just four of those 14 matches.

Sturridge originally injured his thigh while on international duty in early September; that kept him out until mid-October when, close to a return, he suffered more injury problems with a calf strain.

Liverpool have struggled for goals without Sturridge, with Mario Balotelli, Rickie Lambert and Fabio Borini yet to score a league goal between them.

Balotelli also pulled out of the Italy squad this week but should be ready to play at Selhurst Park.
