Crystal Palace praised after employees check on elderly fans and offer to help season-ticket holders with shopping

The London club reportedly told staff they would all be kept on after football matches were postponed

Crystal Palace have been praised after it emerged employees of the club have been checking on elderly fans and offering to do shopping for season-ticket holders who are unable to go out.

With many elderly people currently confined or advised against unnecessary trips due to the coronavirus pandemic, some have struggled to get to supermarkets for basic goods—many of which have been sold out in any case.

But one fan took to Twitter to reveal their father had been called by a staff member of Palace, who have been checking on “all 70-plus members and season-ticket holders” to see if they can do anything to help.

Liam Walker then also revealed that the Palace employee had offered to do any shopping and get any food that the elderly supporter required, passing on his phone number to be easily contactable.

The club employee noted to Mr. Walker that it was apparent that football’s current predicament had left a gap in the lives of some, and the club were pleased to give back some support to those who had been with them for years.

A message from the Crystal Palace worker read:

“Having made a few calls to people like Peter – it’s clear just how much football means to everyone, and losing it will hit some people hard. But most important thing is they all keep safe !”

Meanwhile, Palace winger Wilfried Zaha has offered 50 properties around London to healthcare workers free of charge, enabling them to stay safely away from their families while battling the pandemic and be able to easily get to and from work.

The properties are a business venture and are usually used by short-term renters and travellers in the capital.

Palace sit 11th in the Premier League and had won three succesive league matches before the recent shutdown of action.
