Thiago Silva paid tribute to his manager Frank Lampard after Chelsea sacked their legendary former player on Monday.

Lampard was dismissed following a run of form which saw Chelsea slide to ninth in the Premier League table, and progression in the Champions League and FA Cup was not enough to buy him more time.

Owner Roman Abramovich took the rare step of making a public statement over the sacking, describing Lampard as “an important icon of this great club [whose] status here remains undiminished”.

Lampard signed Thiago Silva on a free transfer in the summer in a move which was questioned in some quarters, given the 36-year-old Brazilian’s advancing years, but he has proved one of the few summer signings to impress.

I would like to thank you for everything you and your committee have done for me since the day I arrived.  As I told you, it seemed like we had been working together for 10 years!! Thank you very much for everything legend . #FrankLampard #legend

The club plans to replace Lampard with German coach Thomas Tuchel, who Thiago Silva worked under during their time at Paris Saint-Germain.
