From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

It’s a big game for...

Leicester: It seems obvious, but it all comes down to one match and it doesn’t even involve them. If Tottenham fail to beat Chelsea, Leicester will be crowned Premier League champions, the first time that they’ve won the English top flight in their history.

Having been bottom of the Premier League in 2015 and staring relegation in the face last season, their story has been an unprecedented and incredible one, and it could all come to a head tonight. However, Spurs have pushed Leicester all the way, and you shouldn’t expect them to lie down without a fight – especially against their London rivals.

Premier League permutations...

If Tottenham fail to win, Leicester City are Premier League champions.

If Tottenham win, Leicester City must beat Everton next weekend to lift the title.

If Tottenham win and Leicester lose to Everton next weekend, Spurs must beat Southampton to keep the title race alive.

Likely teams...

Chelsea: Courtois; Ivanovic, Cahill, Terry, Azpilicueta; Mikel, Fabregas; Willians, Pedro, Hazard; Costa.

Tottenham: Lloris; Walker, Alderweireld, Vertonghen, Rose; Dier, Dembele; Lamela, Eriksen, Chadli; Kane.

Best stat...

26: It’s been 26 long years since Tottenham last beat Chelsea at Stamford Bridge in the league, and the Blues have no intention of letting that record slip no matter how bad this season has been. Both Eden Hazard and Cesc Fabregas have been vocal in their determination to beat Spurs, but the north London side have never had a better opportunity to end that unwanted streak.

Remember when...

Chelsea scored the ghost goal? The FA Cup semi-final at Wembley was seen as Tottenham’s chance to break into the Premier League establishment and rival the likes of Chelsea, Arsenal and Manchester United. It didn’t happen.

Spurs were thrashed 5-1, but the biggest controversy came when Juan Mata’s close-ranger shot hit a bundle of players on the Tottenham goal-line. Replays suggest the ball didn’t cross the line, but back in the day s where goal-line technology didn’t exist, referee Martin Atkinson was obliged to award the goal when his assistant referee gave it the green light, much to Carlo Cudicini’s frustration.

Player to look out for...

John Terry: The Chelsea skipper has sat out the last four matches through injury, but he is expected to return and lead the side in what is expected to be his final derby against Spurs in the colours of Chelsea. Whether the 35-year-old has 90 minutes in him remains to be seen, but you can guarantee Harry Kane will look to target the former England captain and his centre-back partner Gary Cahill.
