The £32m striker scored twice in the first seven minutes to take his pre-season tally to four; one was a composed finish after an excellent pass from Ramires and Costa reacted quickest for his second, turning into an empty net after Andre Schurrle’s strike had hit the post.
Jose Mourinho praised Diego Costa after the game, calling the striker a bargain.
Cesc Fabregas and young Belgian goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois also had their first taste of Stamford Bridge’s home dressing room, with the Spaniard initially lining up in a No 10 role behind Costa.
Youngster Nathan Ake started at left-back, but the rest of the team was full of familiar faces with John Terry captaining the side.
Another new signing, Filipe Luis, also made his home debut coming on as a substitute for Ake at the break, while Marco van Ginkel continued his return after injury.
Fernando Torres continued his poor summer with a hideous shot that was skewed wide – he failed to score a single goal in pre-season.
With Chelsea starting their Premier League campaign away to Burnley on Monday night Mourinho has a clean bill of health, bar veteran striker Didier Drogba who is expected to return soon.
