Hazard, who has openly told of his desire to fulfil his dream of playing Real Madrid, has held off signing any new deal in the hope that a substantial bid from the Spanish giants might materialise.
However, Madrid are thought to have baulked at Chelsea’s £100m asking price for the Belgian, before quotes this week emerged where Hazard revealed to French TV station RMC that he had come to a decision over his future.
Fabregas, who left the Blues in January to join Ligue 1 Monaco, believes the 28-year-old would not make an announcement on his future at a crucial stage of the season if he had the intention of leaving.
Speaking to Spanish radio station Cadena SER, Fabregas said: “I think he’s going to extend his contract with Chelsea. He’s a loyal player. He told me he would never fight with Chelsea to leave. This is his club, he has won so much in England.
“This is just what I think, but I know him well. If he has made a decision, it would never be to let the club down in the middle of the season, he would not do that.”
Hazard has entered the last 18 months of his current deal at Stamford Bridge, and Chelsea are hopeful he will accept a £350,000 per week extension and commit the remaining years of his peak to the club.
However, if Hazard is to leave, Fabregas is adamant that Real Madrid is the only destination the Belgian would consider.
“I don’t know what he will do,” Fabregas continued. ”I know he likes Madrid, it was his dream as a child to play there, but I also know he is very happy at Chelsea. I know his family are happy in London and he is one of the captains of the team.
“But he must make a decision as he is at the end of his contract, first because of money but also because, at 28 years old, it is the right and last time for him to go.”
