The full-back has made an impressive start to the season under new manager Maurizio Sarri, marauding forwards to score once and provide four assists as Chelsea have gone through their opening 10 games unbeaten in all competitions.
Speaking to AS, Alonso said of his future: “What I can say is that I am very calm and very happy at Chelsea, and that the club must also be with me because, although I still have two years left on the contract, they have offered me an extension.
“We are talking about it and the talks to renew are already advanced. If everything goes well, I think I will renew before the end of this month. In the coming days.
“I am 27 years old, I still have two more [years] ahead and I am going to extend my contract. What concerns me is to play as well as possible to win matches and titles with Chelsea and repeat with the national team. I’m calm.”
His teammate Andreas Christensen has revealed he is not so content at Stamford Bridge, however, and described his frustrations with a lack of playing time to the Danish website bt.dk.
“It has been a hard season. To be honest, it has been very difficult,” the centre-back said. “I had a good season last year and I played a good World Cup. I cannot stand to have so much patience again. Now I’m 22 years old and I really want to play.”
Christensen played 27 times last season under Antonio Conte but has struggled to establish himself in Sarri’s four-man defence.
“In the last three seasons, I’ve played, so it’s clear that I do not see me staying if my current situation is also true in the future. It’s too early to talk about when to change if I’m going to change. But it is clear that it is not a good situation for me.”
