Chelsea will assess Willian’s fitness ahead of their Premier League clash against Watford on Wednesday.

The club’s player of the season said ‘someone stepped on his foot’ during the 5-1 win over MK Dons in the FA Cup on Sunday. Guss Hiddink, the interim Chelsea manager, said he hoped the injury was not serious.

“I asked him and he said it is no big worries,” Hiddink said. “But we have to see in the upcoming time because we are playing a lot of games and I hope he will recover in two days.”

Willian has scored eight goals in 31 appearances for Chelsea this season.

Alexandre Pato is expected to ease the goals-scoring burden on Diego Costa and Loic Remy but he will not feature against Watford, with Hiddink confirming the forward needs time ‘to work on his physical condition’.

Striker Radamel Falcao, who failed in his attempt to leave Stamford Bridge for Atletico Madrid on transfer deadline day, is sidelined with a muscle strain.

Remy remains out with a calf strain and will be assessed this week.
