From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. Chelsea are understood to have no current plans to bring Guus Hiddink back to the club in the capacity of technical director following the Dutchman's departure from the Turkey national team.

Having failed to lead Turkey to Euro 2012 next summer, Hiddink, 65, had his contract terminated this week and has already dropped broad hints about his desire to work on a day-to-day basis and in English football. However, sources at Chelsea have indicated that the coach, who led them to the FA Cup during a caretaker spell in 2009, is not part of their plans.

Hiddink is understood to speak to Roman Abramovich on an informal basis but there are no moves to bring him in to the club in a permanent position. The club have always maintained that Andre Villas-Boas was their first choice for the manager's job when they replaced Carlo Ancelotti in the summer.

Chelsea have failed in their attempt to sign a 12-year-old midfielder from Swindon Town. Jordan Young, who lives in Chippenham, has decided to stay with the Wiltshire club.
