From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

STAR PLAYER

Sako: To think the former Wolves forward was available on a free transfer this summer and Alan Pardew had to be persuaded by Palace chief Steve Parrish to sign him. Two starts, two match-winning goals for the Mali man.

MOMENT OF THE MATCH

Joel Ward: Moments after Falcao's fine first Chelsea goal, the right-back popped up in the hosts' six-yard box to head in the decisive goal. What he was doing there, no-one knows.

VIEW FROM THE BENCH

Pardew picked a physical side who were more intimidating than intimidated. With Chelsea less than convincing so far this term, he was determined to exploit their fragility and did so. So unhappy with his defence is Mourinho that he threw on forward Kenedy at left-back (pictured above). Falcao scored soon after his introduction, but Chelsea could not equalise.

MOAN OF THE MATCH

Chelsea's defeat is likely to be the focus, rather than Palace's success. There are plenty of questions for the champions to answer. Palace's first win at Stamford Bridge since 1982 was deserved, though.
