Campbell criticises Albion

Kevin Campbell has claimed that West Bromwich Albion are involved in another relegation battle because of insufficient investment in new players during the past 12 months.

The Albion striker believes they should have improved the squad more last summer and during the January transfer window. He said: "We have better players but our squad is thinner than it was last season. We have got a better points total and we are in a better position but we are still fighting relegation.

"What that tells me is if you don't strengthen enough, you are going to stay in this position. Maybe we didn't strengthen enough when we should have done so but that's not my decision.

"We have got to keep our Premiership status because that is vital for this football club to progress," Campbell added. "We need more players in the summer. If you stand still and don't bring in the quality, you are going to suffer.

"Wigan and West Ham have invested and brought in quality players and it just goes to show what money can do in the Premier League."

Despite his concerns, Campbell remains optimistic the club can stay in the Premiership. He said: "I'm very confident we can stay in this division. We have played great football at times but lost games by the odd goal or drawn when we should have won.

Albion face Arsenal today with virtually a full-strength squad. "We need to address the results and not the actual performances."
