The 19-year-old full-back’s current deal at Old Trafford is set to expire at the end of the next month, despite him having established himself in Louis van Gaal’s first-team squad.
Borthwick-Jackson, who joined the club’s academy as a six-year-old, made his debut as a substitute in November’s home win over West Bromwich Albion and has since made 13 senior appearances.
The academy product has become a popular figure among the club’s support, being voted the Under-21 player of the year by fans earlier this month, and is apparently now set to be handed improved terms.
Borthwick-Jackson’s popularity was boosted earlier this week, following his nonplussed cameo in the much-derided video footage of his teammates reacting to violent scenes outside Upton Park.
Before Tuesday’s match-up with West Ham United, while the team’s coach was attacked, Jesse Lingard, Phil Jones, Michael Carrick and others jovially screamed and shouted in mock terror.
The full-back, meanwhile, was seen casually sitting by a window, reluctant to join in with their frivolities, which largely went down well with the club’s support.
Borthwick-Jackson is one of several academy players to graduate into Van Gaal's first team this season, with the likes of Marcus Rashford and Timothy Fosu-Mensah also establishing themselves in the senior squad.
