Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.Burnley have fined midfielder Kevin McDonald after he left Turf Moor without permission at half-time in Saturday's 6-1 defeat to Manchester City.
The club announced the punishment today, with McDonald also apologising for his "naive" and "disrespectful" behaviour.
Former Dundee player McDonald, 21, was substituted at the break with Burnley 5-0 down.
He said: "I now realise it was naive, disrespectful and totally wrong of me to leave the ground at half-time on Saturday.
"It was a gross misjudgement and instead I should have remained at Turf Moor to support my club and team-mates.
"I acknowledge that I also showed a serious lack of respect to all the fans who were at the ground and who pay good money to watch their team play.
"I would like to apologise to the players, management and supporters and I have accepted my punishment.
"In closing, I would like to reassure all supporters that I am fully committed to helping the team as we fight to stay in the Premier League."
