Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.Come the end of the season, whoever goes down along with Sheffield United and - most probably - West Brom might just look back at this fixture as the pivotal, defining one. Brighton host Newcastle United on Saturday night, with a huge amount hanging on the outcome in terms of both confidence and league position.
The Seagull’s win over Southampton last week lifted them above the Magpies in the table by a point - plus a superior goal difference - and ending a run of five games without a win. Steve Bruce’s side are on that exact same run right now: no wins in five, with each of the last three being draws, the most recent of which was against Aston Villa.
Centre-back Jamaal Lascelles says Newcastle have 10 “cup finals” left to play, and still believes they can avoid the drop, but it’s becoming increasingly difficult to be optimistic about the chances of a team which has won just twice since mid-December.
Only four teams have scored fewer goals than Newcastle have managed this season in the Premier League - and Brighton have managed just one more.
Here’s everything you need to know ahead of the game.
