From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.Relegation-threatened Brighton host Newcastle on Saturday evening hoping to gain more vital points in their quest for Premier League survival.
The Seagulls picked up a crucial point against Wolves last weekend albeit they suffered defeat to Tottenham on Tuesday night and sit just three points above Cardiff, and the drop, on 34.
Brighton have failed to score in seven successive matches but have earned 22 of their 34 points on home turf.
Newcastle meanwhile have won just three away games in the league all season.
The visitors though will be buoyed by their strong recent form, having secured victories in their last two matches and eight points from a possible 15 in their last five and will be looking to keep this up on the south coast.
Prediction… Brighton 0-0 Newcastle
The point Brighton secured against Wolves may have been enough to see them secure Premier League safety, given their superior goal difference to Cardiff, but with the Welsh side facing fixtures against both Fulham and Crystal Palace in their next two games the Seagulls are still very much in the dogfight.
Newcastle are safe, are looking ahead to next season and their solid but unspectacular consistency this year has been another job well done by manager Rafa Benitez – though, can he motivate them for three essentially meaningless games?
Brighton will be nervy and Newcastle have the 16th worst record for goals in the division so it will likely be a game of few clear cut chances.
