From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Cardiff striker Jay Bothroyd has played down talk of a move to Aston Villa and insists he is "fully committed" to the Bluebirds ahead of tonight's FA Cup third-round replay against Bristol City.

The 27-year-old former Arsenal trainee has overcome a viral infection to be in contention for tonight's game and maintains his focus has not been distracted by talk of a transfer.

He told www.cardiffcityfc.co.uk: "Obviously you are flattered when you get linked with other clubs, especially the likes of Aston Villa, but I am fully committed to Cardiff and just want to concentrate on doing well for them.

"It's an honour to be linked with them but I am a professional and need to put that to the back of my mind and play well for Cardiff."

Bristol City boss Gary Johnson hopes his side can take the positives from their 4-2 victory over Preston into tonight's match in Wales.

The Robins had struggled for form going into Saturday's game, having won only one of their previous 11 fixtures.

But, after getting their push for the play-offs back on track, Johnson is hopeful they can transfer their new-found belief into the cup.

"A result like that definitely helps," said Johnson, who is likely to be without striker Danny Haynes because of a hamstring injury.

The sides fought out a 1-1 draw in the rearranged first tie last Tuesday, with Gavin Williams' 92nd-minute equaliser earning City a replay.

The winners face a fourth-round home tie against Coca-Cola Championship rivals Leicester.

Accrington are eyeing an FA Cup bonus when they take on League One side Gillingham in the third round tonight.

The Reds have not beaten Mark Stimson's side on home turf since their return to the Football League and the club have revealed they will consider using any possible prize money from a victory to lift their transfer embargo.

Chief executive Rob Heys told Press Association Sport: "It is possible and it is something that we could look to do.

"Staying in the FA Cup is key for a club like Accrington, not just for the monetary bonus that is involved with such a prestigious competition, but also the historical element."

The winners face a glamorous home tie against Barclays Premier League side Fulham.

Forest Green boss David Hockaday remains short of players for tonight's trip to Notts County, with Craig Rocastle, Oliver Thorne and Dave Wilkinson all cup-tied.

He told the club's website, www.forestgreenroversfc.com: "It is not easy being a manager, particularly when faced with this sort of preparation for such an important match. Whatever our line-up, we will be giving it 100%."

Brentford midfielder Myles Weston is confident his side can secure a fourth-round date with Derby by overcoming Doncaster.

The Bees ran out 3-1 winners against Carlisle on Saturday and will be looking to extend their impressive run, which has seen them lose only once in their last seven outings.

Weston told the club's website, www.brentfordfc.co.uk: "We are taking it seriously. It's not going to be a walkover game just because they are in a higher league. It's a chance for us to prove that we are a good team."
